Adding the eBook to Your Reading Device

Since there are so many varied mobile reading devices out there, I thought I’d add a separate page on how to add them. People have made a number of excellent suggestions on the eBook launch post, which I’m compiling here. If you use Calibre or Adobe Digital Editions to manage your books, that will work too.

There are shortcodes on the page which allow you to download the file straight to your device. These instructions are for the “download” zipped file.

Adding to Kindle

Step 1. Download the file (for Kindle) to your computer.

Step 2. Unzip the file. It should contain a folder titled “The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft.”

Step 3. Copy the MOBI file (or entire folder) onto your Kindle into your “Documents” folder. You can also email the file to your Kindle.

Adding to Nook

Step 1. Download the file (for Nook) to your computer.

Step 2. Unzip the file. It should contain one file, “The Complete Works of HP Lovecraft.epub” (or a folder containing that file).

Step 3. Plug in your Nook and copy that file into the “My Documents” folder on your Nook.

Adding to iPad or iPhone

Step 1. Download the file (EPUB) to your computer.

Step 2. Unzip the file. It should contain one file, “The Complete Works of HP Lovecraft.epub” (or a folder containing that file).

Step 3. Drag it from your desktop onto the iPhone or iPad’s icon in iTunes. It’ll copy to your iBooks library automatically.

Adding to a Sony Reader

(this Sony Reader suggestion may work for anyone running into a problem with the EPUB)

Step 1. Download the file (EPUB) to your computer.

Step 2. Unzip the file. It should contain one file, “The Complete Works of HP Lovecraft.epub” (or a folder containing that file).

Step 3. If adding via normal methods doesn’t work download Calibre.

Step 4a. Add the EPUB to Calibre and tell it you want to convert the EPUB to EPUB (it will let you do this). Then in the appropriate conversion section, choose your Sony device’s profile out of the list.

Step 4b. Or a copy of the MOBI format. Unzip the MOBI file and add to Calibre. Delete any copies of the EPUB file in there. Sync to device. Calibre will want to convert to EPUB, let it.

Adding to Android Kindle App

One reader reported that while the book didn’t initially show up in his Android Kindle app, it did after he “bought” free content from Amazon for the app. Both this book and the free book appeared together.

Adding to Droid Phone

From a reader:
To load the Kindle version of the book onto a Droid phone (used my Droid X) follow the steps below.

1. Download the Kindle version of the file (.zip)
2. Unzip the file into a folder or location where all files are grouped together.
3. Connect your droid to your computer
4. Navigate the droid through file explorer and open the kindle directory
5. Copy/Paste the cover.jpg file in the /kindle/covers folder
6. Copy/Paste the The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft – H.P. Lovecraft.mbp and The Complete Works of H.P. Lovecraft – H.P. Lovecraft.mobi files to /kindle
7. Detach the phone from the computer and start the Kindle application. The book will show up without having to do anything extra or download “free” content.

Adding to Android Aldiko

Another reader suggests that rather than using the Kindle app, you should use “Aldiko.”

Adding to Kindle for PC

These are the instructions sent in by another reader:

There are 2 ways. I am using Windows 7 for this. It may differ for XP/Vista.
Step 1) Download the file (of course)
Step 2) Open it from download manager
Step 3) Open the folder then click to open the Kindle Content (Aka complete works of H.P. Lovecraft)
Step 4) it should then open in your app and be added to the ‘library’

The second way:
follow steps 1-2
Step 3) Open folder. Copy Kindle Content
Step 4) Find the ‘documents’ folder on your computer. It will look like: Libraries\Documents
Step 5) Paste the Complete Works into the ‘My Kindle Content’ folder.
Done!

If you do it the first way it won’t disappear. It’ll be moved to the documents folder mentioned in the second way.
