Best Part of ALA

Last week, the American Library Associate conference was in DC. This is like San Diego Comic-Con for librarians, it’s huge! Our library arranged to let all the paraprofessionals go to the exhibits (free for us) and gave us a half-day of leave to do it in. Those of us planning to go to library school jumped at it.

It was a pretty fun experience, not the first library conference I’ve been to, but the biggest. Here’s what got me most excited on the exhibit hall floor:

Wizards of the Coast Booth

Frak yeah.

Even better, they were giving out copies of R.A. Salvatore’s book The Orc King. So I got that too.

please don’t jump me, librarians, I didn’t get to go to those fancy sessions you do…paraprofs at my workplace didn’t get tickets.

What a cool booth! And that’s awesome that your library arranged that for paraprofessionals. :)

Look at those windows! I’d go in just for the booth.

That looks like an intensely fun time!

I worked in a library for two years from 1997 to 1999 and helped switch over from the gaylord punch cards to barcodes. It was an intense and fun time. I loved working there!

My staffer got to attend the ALA (though, I thought it was in May …) and I was Jealous.

There were some good booths there, but this one took the cake for construction. I saw it before I noticed whose it was.

@Emma That was an intense period in libraries! Gaylord’s still big in the supplies business, I should check our catalog for punch cards.

@Revanche There are a whole set of library conferences in the Springtime…it’s possible that was one of the smaller and more specialized ones.
