One of my favorite simple browser tools is my QuixApp, it’s a bookmarklet with tons of commands built right in. I type in:
g must be bunnies
and voila, I’m on Google’s search results page for “must be bunnies” (but w/o quotes). I type in:
imdb Nathan Fillion
and suddenly I’m on his IMDB page or on an IMDB results page if there are multiple Nathan Fillions (heaven!). It also allows you to bookmark on Delicious, clip to Evernote, etc. You can type in
w3c to validate a page or
firebug to use Firebug lite on it. Check out this frakking awesome list of things it can do!
It vies with Firebug for the favorite-browser-tool-ever-yay! spot in my affections.
Anyway what I’m sharing today is the little add-on file that I’ve created for Quix. It’s a totally extendable bookmarklet, so I wrote two commands which help me with searches I’ve needed to make during my DS9 re-watch and while watching Caprica (since I’m so unfamiliar with the BSG ‘verse).
Now I just type in
st and a search term to search the Memory Alpha Star Trek wiki and
bsg and a search term to search BattlestarWiki.org. The searches are modified Google site searches because I got better results than using their wiki search functions.
If you’re using Quix and want to add these two commands to your QuixApp, here are the two ways to do it.
1) Add my extension file to your Quix
If you haven’t written any extensions of your own, and especially if you don’t have webhosting of your own, then you might as well use the same file I do. It’s uploaded at http://arkhamarchivist.com/quix.txt.
All you have to do is go to the Quix extend page and paste http://arkhamarchivist.com/quix.txt in the box as shown below. Then drag the bookmarklet below the box into your bookmarks bar. Voila. (click the image to see full-size)
2) Add the code to your Quix extension file
If you like using Quix and have hosting somewhere online, why not create your own extension file? Then you don’t have to worry about me giving up this site either.
st http://www.google.com/search?q=site:http://memory-alpha.org%20%s Memory Alpha Search bsg http://www.google.com/search?q=site:http://en.battlestarwiki.org/wiki/%20%s Battlestar Galactica Wiki Search
You can also copy it from the uploaded file.
Do you use Quix? Any good add-on codes you recommend?
